In an upcoming Netflix film, The Week Of, Adam Sandler will be joined by Chris Rock. Directed by Robert Smigel, the movie is a wedding comedy before Sandler’s movie daughter gets married to Rock’s movie son. The movie co-written by Smigel and Sandler will be the fourth instalment of the first Netflix deal of Sandler. Netflix reached a new deal with Sandler by signing four more movies. This comes to no surprise given the success of the previous movies.
The production of the film will begin this summer on Long Island, New York. The movie will debut globally in 2018 on Netflix. Tim Herlihy and Barry Bernardi will be the executive producers for the movies, and Allen Covert and Sandler will produce for Happy Madison.
In an interview to Deadline, Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer of Netflix, said that Adam Sandler and Rock are two cornerstones of the comedy family of Netflix. The company is over the moon by bringing together these two legends and giving the world a healthy dose of hilarity. The film will be a perfect vehicle for the actors and their millions of fans around the globe. The plot details have not been revealed yet, but with Adam Sandler and Rock as the leading actors, we can expect a lot of wacky things.
Recently, Netflix revealed that Sandler’s films that are part of the exclusive deal had been one of the most watched original films of Netflix. These include the spy-comedy ‘The Do-Over’, the western spoof ‘The Ridiculous 6’, and the recently released Hollywood most acclaimed satirical movies ‘Sandy Wexler’. With this deal, Adam Sandler became the first major film star to bypass the theatres completely and be for at-home viewing. Sandler is also in ‘The Meyerowitz Stories’, the Noah Baumbach film on Netflix that will be premiered in Cannes.
The trio – Sandler, Rock, and Smigel, have been working together on Saturday Night Live. Another Rock and Adam Sandler starred one of the remarkable movies, Grown-Ups, was co-written by Smigel. The movie also featured Kevin James and David Spade. Rock recently made a deal with Netflix for two comedy specials worth $40 million that will be aired on Netflix.
