Portia Lee James DeGeneres born on January 31, 1973, majorly known professionally as Portia de Rossi, is an Australian–American actress, model, and philanthropist. She is currently working as a regular cast member on the American political thriller series Scandal in the role of Elizabeth North.
She is probably best known as the wife of the famous host of the TV show The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Ellen DeGeneres. However, there is so much more to know about this beauty.
4. She has changed her name… twice.
Portia De Rossi had a totally different name when she was born. Initially, she was named as Amanda Rogers which she changed to her recent name because she thought the name was too common.
She opted for Portia by getting inspired by one of Shakespeare’s characters in “Merchant Of Venice” and added De Rossi for an Italian element.
Later, after getting married to Ellen Degeneres, she changed her name to Portia DeGeneres for the second time in 2010.
3. She was married before Ellen Degeneres.
Many of us might not know, but before Ellen, she was the wife of the director Mel Metcalfe in the hopes of getting an American green card, but due to a failure of which they got divorced after Metcalfe cheated on her.
2. Acting
She got her big break in acting after she got the role of Nelle Porter on 1990’s hit show “Ally McBeal” till the show was cancelled in 2002. After the cancellations, she was in search of big roles but ended up doing smaller roles. Finally, she got the role of her dreams, the role of Lindsay Bluth on the hit show “Arrested Development” for which she also won a Golden Satellite Award for Best Actress in 2005.
1. Modelling
Her modelling career started when she was just 11 years old. Due to her beauty and talent, she got many offers related to the advertisement world where she began to develop her acting abilities.
Her first role was in an Australian film named “Sirens” where she had a role of a young, impressionable model which is not much different than her actual life. Well, Ellen Degeneres and her wife look cute together!! May God bless them and their love always blossoms like this.
