Harry Styles, the 23-year-old singer, was present without any of his One Direction bandmates for the first time at the Saturday Night Live stage. He performed “Sign of the Times” and “Ever Since New York” from his upcoming debut album named after himself- Harry Styles. His performance comes very close to the release of “Sign of the Times” on April 7 release of— one of the ten songs from his much-awaited record, set to drop on the 12th of May this year.
Learning from Justin Timberlake, Harry didn’t just stop at singing but dared to show off his hilarious side in a few of the show’s sketches. Funnily impersonating a 1970s-era Mick Jagger in a game of Celebrity Family Feud: Time Travel Edition, the singer poked fun at his own solo efforts outside of the band One Direction. “Solo? Why would anyone in a successful band want to go solo?” he mocked himself while dressed as the Rolling Stones frontman. “That is insane.” The audience couldn’t keep it from laughing out loud and praising him for his efforts at going upstage.
Styles had performed earlier on the comedy sketch show with One Direction as an artist guest in the years, 2012 and 2014.
The release of “Harry Styles” and “Sign of the Times” marks Styles’ first new music ever since One Direction went on to have a break in 2016 and also since he signed a deal with Columbia Records as a solo artist that year.
Zayn Malik released his very own debut in 2016 with “Mind of Mine”. Niall Horan released his single “This Town” in 2016 and Louis Tomlinson released his song “Just Hold On” in 2016 as the last member of the group who decided to branch out into solo work.
There seem to be a lot of firsts lined for Styles over the year 2017, as it doesn’t just stop at his solo project, he’ll also be making his acting debut in Christopher Nolan’s 2017 anticipated blockbuster, Dunkirk.
We can’t wait to see what more Harry Styles is going to keep surprising his fans with this year!
