Johnny Depp does WHAT? Spends $30,000 a month on wine? Is that even believable or is he trying to evade taxes from his net worth? Something more intriguing than the release of President Trump’s 2005 tax release was the release of Johnny Depp’s accounts by his business managers a few months ago.

Now, there were some other fun details as well, for example, Depp spent more than $3 million to blast the ashes of the late writer Hunter S. Thompson from a specifically made cannon. His net worth accounts also mentioned that Johnny Depp has spent $30,000 a month on wine, a cost that some found even more wasteful than the cannon, causing the Wall Street Journal to wonder whether spending $30,000 monthly is too much?
The answer, for the average American (or any other human in the world) who may not even be able to afford health care in the future, appears to be YES! But surprisingly, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) article leads us to believe that maybe it isn’t. Writer Lettie Teague questioned her immediate circle of wine dealers, aficionados, and sommeliers, and found that some of these wine-lovers could easily spend five figures on a single bottle. That’s right. Imagine spending over 10,000 dollars on ONE bottle of wine. Teague mentions, “Was Jack Sparrow’s wine budget really so big, after all? Some wine collectors I talked to didn’t seem to think so.”
Granted, some of these experts included Brad Goldstein, a spokesman for billionaire Bill Koch, who sniffed at Depp’s comparably paltry sum. A case of 1945 Mouton Rothschild was sold for $400,000 in 2016. Therefore, If agents of Johnny Depp were trying to show excess, they’re in the wrong place!
But even Teague’s most important wine aficionados admitted to splurging on a $350 wine bottle they felt strongly about, or trying to limit their wine spending to $2,000/ (which is still a LOT), estimating their annual budget for wine to be somewhere in the five figures. Granted, Johnny Depp’s a definite millionaire in the world of net worth, while these people are not, so perhaps the percentages are similar if we would do the math and calculate their wine consumption per capita. But, all said and done, it is easy to agree upon the fact that being a wine aficionado can cost you a huge sum of money! He may not be translucent about his net worth, but we sure are!
