The 53-year-old, Nicolas Cage recently broke his ankle on the sets of the bank heist action movie #211 in Bulgaria. He was rushed to a hospital in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia, near to where they had been shooting the film, before flying back to Los Angeles for advanced treatment. Doctors suggested they wanted to operate as soon as possible. But Cage asserted he wanted to fly back to California to have the operation.
It is not clear as to how Nicolas Cage broke his ankle, but Deadline reported it was the outcome of a “freak accident”. Moreover, he has always been welcoming to the idea of doing the majority of the stunts in his action films by himself. And with movies of the like National Treasure and Ghost Rider in his pocket, his stunt work can be abundant. Cage even said in an interview that he finds the idea of doing stunts “calming”.
Nicolas Cage told mirror.uk, “One of the things that’s interesting to me is I find things like caffeine and stunts actually relax me. When they’re putting a bit of gel on my arm and lighting me on fire, or when I’m about to go into a high-speed car chase or rev a motorcycle up pretty fast, I find everything else around me slows down. I find it quite calming, which is an odd switch.”
It is speculated that Nicolas Cage will return to the set in about two weeks. Nu Image and Millennium Films did not say how the actor’s absence will affect the shooting of the film.
#211 draws a story surrounding a bank robbery with a good cop, played by Cage, trying to thwart the burglary. In police codes, 211 indicates that a robbery is in progress. The movie also stars Cage’s son, Weston. The film is being directed by York Alec Shackleton. Actors Amanda Cerny, Sophie Skelton and Michael Rainey Jr. also star in the movie. It is speculated to release later this year.
Nicolas Cage was awarded an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Award for his portrayal of an alcoholic Hollywood author in Leaving Las Vegas (1995) before he came to the notice of a wider audience with conventional films, such as The Rock (1996), Con Air (1997) and City of Angels (1998).
