Since high school, Sonya had a huge interest in sports. In high school, she played Volleyball and Basketball and won state championships in both sports.

She uses to be pretty good in both, but later on, she decided to proceed with just Volleyball.

She selected Virginia Tech college and played Volleyball there for four years. She was a three-letter winner, and her major contribution in the game let the Hokies to a 69-70 record.

Overall, she was a pretty good player at her time.

Sony married to Dell Curry, a former basketball player who also went to Virginia Tech college from 1982–1986.

They have three children named Stephen Curry (born 1988), Seth Curry (born 1990) and Sydel Curry (born 1994).

Stephen (Golden State Warriors) and Seth (Dallas Mavericks) both are professional basketball players.

Sydel Curry is also an American volleyball player who played for the Elon University women’s volleyball team.

The couple loved each other’s company and couldn’t get enough of each other.

After dating for some period, they got married in 1988 and had three beautiful children in the following years.

Her both sons are doing great in American basketball, and that is not happening because of some luck or magic.

She prepared her children to be disciplined and taught them how work ethics really works.

In talking to SF Gate, Stephen said the following. “Sports is a big part of our family, but not priority No. 1. Plenty of times I was disciplined for not taking care of things in the classroom or around the house, and the punishment was that I couldn’t practice or play.”

There’s a small incident about teaching discipline to Stephen. Like one night, he was supposed to do the dishes, but he skipped. Next day was the first game of Stephen in high school, and he was not allowed by his mother to play the game.

“If you hit a roadblock, don’t be discouraged. It provides a sense of who you are. That life throws you challenges, and you need to figure it out.” Sonya used to say these words to her children.

Dell and Sonya Curry founded a school in 1995. It’s named The Christian Montessori School of Lake Norman that is a non-profit school.

It’s dedicated to following Christ as well as the spiritual and academic development of the whole child through the Montessori method of education.

Any child can join this school, regardless of their religion, race or ethnicity, it’s open for all.

The school follows a philosophy and methods of education that prepare students to be more creative and independent in their lives.

Especially for the children who are enthusiastic towards learning.
